I had an idea for a bookcase with sliding covers that would store flat above the books, but extend out and down. Basically, having the cover stored up above the books, but it can be pulled out and set down.
I know I’ve seen older furniture where a free-swinging bolt guides a cover along a track until it reaches the edge, then the whole thing folds down, but I have no idea what the track and bolt would be called.

I still have to measure them to see if they fit what I have in mind, but you are a godsend.

Yes, but with the cover coming straight down. Others have told me this is a barrister’s book case.

Like some have said, Barrister Bookcase, but there are similar that use glass doors framed in wood to see the book behind and have similar used in gentleman’s clothing apparel stores for some time here in the U.K.

Yes. I want that.

I want to make that without the glass. I’ve seen it without a bookcase. My idea was to put it on a slant with and edge, so there would be one representative book in front that could sold up.

These things can be as large or as small as you want/need.
They can be no bigger than a regular draw, with or without a slide out draw within.
Like someone said about a bread bin, there is a bread bin version with the up and over door.
The main thing you need are the runners, like you have on door chains with the runner being longer (as long as your draw is in height) and recessed into a mitred channel and the sliding pins attached to the top other edges of the door, with secondary pins on the inside of the draw top edge for the door to slide over, holding the door up and out the way.

I'd prefer to look at my books...but it's a pretty flash product regardless.

As others have said and you’re already aware...
Just wanted to comment and say that I have a set in my living room.
